Giles Prichard Autism Counselling

About me

Counselling

I am an experienced counsellor registered with the BACP - you can find me here. I have extensive experience of my own long-term weekly psychotherapy.

Personal Experience

While I have been autistic all my life, I received a formal diagnosis in 2018 after many years 'trying to be normal'; my family background is neurodiverse. Professionally I have worked with people for over 30 years in the legal, housing and mental health fields; I have also worked as an artist & in sustainable design research.

Training

My core training is in Transactional Analysis (TA), a talking therapy with a strong culture of user-friendly concepts to help make sense of one's experiences. Like many therapies, TA is interested in how the past can influence the present, how we may have adapted to early environments as well as wondering about the absorbing of unwritten rules inherent in families and cultures. This last point can be particularly important since neurodivergence can be seen as a social minority subject to the majority's norms .
